A Look At New Rifles From the 2011 SHOT Show

The Shooting and Hunting Outdoor Trade Show was recently held in Las Vegas, NV. Here's a look some of the new rifle entries discovered in the Sands Expo Center.

Savage Model 11 Lightweight Hunter
Wayne van Zwoll admires the Savage Model 11 Lightweight Hunter. Available in short and long actions, the Lightweight Hunter has caught the eye of more than one editor. The short action version weighs 5.5 pounds and is available in .308 Win., .260 Rem., 7MM-08 Rem., .223 Rem., and .243 Rem. The long action is available in .270 Win. and 30-06 Springfield and weighs just under 6 pounds. MSRP starts at $875.

CVA Scout

You would expect to see CVA under the muzzleloader heading of this article, yet the company's biggest news of 2010 comes in the area of centerfire rifles. For the first time ever, CVA is offering a single-shot break-open rifle in the form of the Scout model.

Available in both standard configurations for adults and a compact version for youth shooters, the Scout is available in .243; 7mm-08, .270, .30-06 and .35 Whelen for the standard and .243 only in the compact. Basic features include a synthetic stock, barrels in either blued carbon steel or 416 stainless steel and a DuraSight Dead-On Integral Scope Mount.

Winchester Super X Rifle

Whitetail hunters' growing interest in semi-autos extends past the present surge in sporting AR15 rifles to more traditional styles as well. The new Winchester Super X Rifle (SXR) traces a heritage that includes the legendary M1 Garand, M14, and the classic Winchester Model 100.

Employing a modern gas-operated autoloading system, the SXR autoloader offers bolt-action accuracy with a lightweight aluminum-alloy receiver drilled and tapped for scope mounting bases, hammer-forged barrel, removable trigger assembly, a detachable box magazine with swing-down floorplate, an international-styled walnut stock, an enlarged trigger guard for safe and accessible control in cold weather, and a positive crossbolt safety.
